Design - Constructed Work
Recognizes site-specific works of landscape architecture. Professional entries in this category must be built. Design submissions represent constructed, site-specific works (previous winners in this category are not eligible for resubmission). Projects under construction may be submitted. All projects should be illustrated in relationship to the larger context. Entries in this category might include: park, recreation and open space design; housing and community development; transportation corridors and facilities; commercial facilities; historic preservation and restoration; land and water reclamation and conservation; urban design; and landscape art.
Typical entries include: public, institutional, or private landscapes of all kinds; historic preservation, reclamation, conservation; green roofs, stormwater management, sustainable design; design for transportation or infrastructure; landscape art or installation; interior landscape design; and more.
The jury will consider the quality of design and execution (for professional entries); design context; functional success; environmental sensitivity and sustainability; and design value to the client and to other designers. Design - Residential Constructed Work
Residential single and multifamily site-specific works of landscape architecture that elevate the design principles of quality, context/place, environmental responsibility, maintenance requirements and durability. Innovative design and construction techniques that help to reduce overall construction and maintenance costs will also be recognized. Entries in this category must have been built.
Typical entries include: Single family homes; high rise, multi-family production and custom home developments (market rate and non-market rate will be considered); transit oriented development (TOD); historic preservation, renovation or conservation projects; senior or assisted living developments; private or small gardens; new urbanism projects with multifamily development; projects located in Opportunity Zones; and more.
The jury will consider the quality of design context and execution, materiality, environmental sensitivity, community benefit, sustainability through Low Impact Development (lid) incorporation, green infrastructure or additional site specific techniques that are innovative, site specific and maintainable.

Design - Non Constructed Work
Recognizes projects that are site-specific but not built at the time of awards submittal. Design submissions represent, site-specific works that have not been constructed (previous winners in this category are not eligible for resubmission). Projects under construction may be submitted. All projects should be illustrated in relationship to the larger context. In the project statement clarify whether the project is to-be-built or if project is conceptual. Entries in this category might include: parks, recreation and open space design; housing and community development; transportation corridors and facilities; commercial facilities; historic preservation and restoration; land and water reclamation and conservation; urban design; and landscape art.
Typical entries include: All of the examples listed in the above category of Design-Constructed Work.
The jury will consider the quality of design; design context; environmental sensitivity and sustainability; and expected design value to the client and to other designers. Recognizes the wide variety of professional activities that lead to, guide, and evaluate landscape architecture design. Entries in this category are not required to be built or implemented. Planning and Analysis submissions should reflect the process that was used to analyze or arrive at design decisions (previous winners in this category are not eligible for resubmission). All projects should be illustrated in relationship to the larger context. Urban and/or regional planning efforts, development guidelines, corridor studies, town or campus planning efforts, brownfield site reclamation plans; environmental planning related to regulatory controls, cultural or natural resource protection, historic landscape planning and more. The jury will consider the quality of the analysis and planning effort, context, environmental sensitivity, applicability to practice, potential for implementation and value to the client, the public and the larger profession.
Typical entries include: urban, suburban, rural, or regional planning efforts; development guidelines; transportation, town, or campus planning; plans for reclamation of brownfield sites; environmental planning in relation to legislative or policy initiatives or regulatory controls; cultural resource reports; natural resources protection; historic preservation planning; and more.
The jury will consider the quality of the analysis and planning effort; context; environmental sensitivity and sustainability; likelihood of successful implementation; and value to the client, the public, and other designers.
Hard copy materials may be submitted (not required) directly to ASLAKY at P.O. Box 701334, Louisville, KY 40270. Notify the awards contacts below via email if materials will be mailed ahead of time. Mailed items need to be received within one week of the online submittal deadline. Hard copy materials, if requested, will be returned to the sender once the jury has completed their evaluation.

Planning & Analysis
Recognizes achievements in communicating landscape architecture works, techniques, technologies, history, or theory, and the lesson value to an intended audience. Communications submissions should set high standards for communication of landscape architecture knowledge and/or a particular landscape architectural work, body of work, and/or professional firm to groups within or outside of the profession (previous winners in this category are not eligible for resubmission). Projects relevant to this category are achievements in communication of landscape architectural built works and/or planning works; allied profession information; technology; theory; or practice.
Typical entries include: print media, film, video, audio, CD, or DVD formats; online communications; interpretive design; exhibition design; publications of landscape architectural works, history, art or technology; extension education or how-to publications intended for the non-technical reader; and environmental awareness/issues.and more. Also relevant could be community outreach programs, charrettes, and outreach of interdisciplinary design professions on community issues.
The jury will consider the effectiveness of message presentation, the innovation in approach or delivery, and the value to the intended audience. Refer to category information above for jury evaluation criteria.

Communication
Recognizes quality student work in any of the three non-constructed categories listed above however, student work does not need to declare a category. The jury will consider the quality of design/planning effort/communications; and quality of presentation.
